Aurora Loan Services Saga, Part 2

by francine Hardaway on February 19, 2010

After my blog post on Huffpo about Aurora Loan Services, a friend of mine suggested I try to find someone from the company on LinkedIn, and I did. I found the COO, who referrred me to the VP of Quality, and within 48 hours I was in a trial modification program, supposedly 2% for 30 years. Why didn't I jump up and down for joy?

Because, it's a trial program, during which they evaluate my financial statements again and can throw me out if my income is too high or too low (I have no idea of the criteria), and because I also have a HELOC (a second) that I need to modify and I couldn't find anyone relevant on LinkedIn from Citigroup.

So now I get a statement online from Aurora, cheerfully telling me I owe $7201, which represents two months payments on the NON-modified mortgage. For purposes of the record, here's what I wrote back:

I just got a statement online from you saying I owe $7201, which appears to be 2 months.  I know I have to send $2320 before March 1, and that's queued up in my system to go already.  The last check for $2320 went into your mortgage modification program separately and was a hand check in January February. Please confirm that you got it.  It looks like your online system still thinks I am not in the program.

I also just sent two more documents you said you needed: verification of my Social Security benefits and a 2009 P & L.  Please verify that you got those, too.

And while you are at it, please verify that I am actually in the trial loan modification program, because I went into it through your VP of Quality, who sent me an email saying I had been selected for a trial modification, 30 years 2 % program for the next four months to see if I could afford it.

Everyone from your organization tells me something different. Thank goodness email provides an audit trail.

And your web site does not work in Safari or Chrome? Why not?

For the record, I've stayed current, although depleting all my liquid assets, throughout my fifteen-month ordeal to get this loan modified. So this is almost  like a game to Aurora. Everyone else who comments on my blog posts about them has either walked voluntarily or been foreclosed. I'm like a pit bull, but I have better things to do. More later:-)

Wow. You think that is bad. We have been dealing with Aurora loans for over a year now, on something that started almost two years ago. A contract which I had aquired, fell through. I was unemployeed for three months. Not that we live from paycheck to paycheck, but we had just had an occurance that depleted our savings, we were unable to make house payments for those three months. At that time Aurora Loans had contracted a payment plan to get caught up, and in August of that same year 2008, I tool on another contract. Unfortunately there was some complications with my pay, and I was 4 days late. I called to make a payment, and all they would say, is that I was in default of our agreement. Now, I have to agree, I was in default for 4 days, however I had the money to pay. But I could not get past the initial person I spoke to on the phone. Of course I called back multiple times and got the same answer. On January 2009 Aurora loans told me that they were putting me into a mortgage modification program, aent me a letter listing all the items they needed, and I sent these items back promptly. Now keep in mind, I had been calling Aurora Loans at least two times a week every week after they would not let me make a payment, and after they told us they had put us into foreclosure. In April, Aurora loans contacted me and said they had not recieved all the paper work, and asked me to sent in all the paper work I had before. I promptly did this. In June Aurora Loans contacted me and said they were putting me into a 90 day trial period, and to send in $1640.70 to be received before the 1st of every month, and to send it in as a cashier check. I did this. Oh plus they asked for another copy of all my paper work. Keep in mind again, I have been calling Auror Loans on a weekly basis to see if anything had changed or if they needed anything from me. At the end of the 90 days, I received another request for the same paper work, and when I called they said that I was still in the modification program, nothing had changed, and they were still reviewing it. I continued to make my payments, and on 12/23/2009 I received a letter stating that I did not qualify for the Modification program, and that they were going forward with the foreclosure, and no other information or actions would be forth coming. On 12/28/2009 I was able to contact Aurora Loans, and they informed me that they were putting us into yet another modification program which is very similar to the one I did not qualify for. We continued to make the payments, and for our February 1st payment, they sent it back explaining that we did not have a contractual agreement with Auroa Loans to continue making payments. In March we received a letter asking if we were having problems making our payments. I have an appointment with a realestate attorney this coming Tuesday. I'm not sure where I will go from here.

Let us know. It sounds as though the only difference between us is that it
took me much longer to get into the modification program because I stayed
current. But I fully expect to get bounced out, since you are not the only
person to tell me they've been in and out of modification programs. Because
the criteria keep shifting and the investors are different in every deal,
this is a program that works better in theory. That's why so many
homeowners have been advised to turn in the keys and move on.,

I just closed 30 days ago on my mod with Aurora. I was qualified back in July and started making my trail payments Aug 1st. My last trail payment was Nov 1st but by Dec 1st, I had heard nothing. THEN, I went online and googled Aurora reviews and WOW!!!! Lots of problems with them. I actually got scared that I was going to be told that I didn't qualify after all……SO…I sent an email to them and told them what I had been reading online and told them that I am worried I will be denied the mod…..1 day later I got an email saying all I need to do is sent in my HOA fees. OK…I ended up sending it THREE times and I didnt close in 30 days as they originally said, but 60 days….but its a done deal. Have my new mort at 5 1/8 fixed for 30 years. Maybe I just got lucky…..I don't know….btw: i was never late with a payment and I was never underwater on my loan…
