3G Iphone: Such a joke

by francine Hardaway on July 12, 2008

These were the people ahead of me in the Apple Store line in Burlingame this morning–a Saturday. I got there at 9 and left at 2 PM with my 3G iPhone, sore feet, and fatigue. What was I doing there? Why did I bother? I still can’t answer those questions after chilling at home for eight hours.

3G isn’t that much faster. The apps from the App Store ran fine on my previous iPhone ( I can hardly call it old because Apple replaced it for me a month ago when my screen froze). I had enough trouble with battery life without adding 3G and GPS to the mix. And the extra money…

Ah, but the lure of Steve Jobs, as explained in 1997 by Doc Searls, via Dave Winer.

I have always had a soft spot for those fast talking, good looking men in black.

Referencing Dave Winer’s blog from 11 years ago is incredibly interesting. Its so fun to look back and read when “we” thought back then. Of the 7 items he listed to assume, only #6 can be proven to have not come true, given Steve’s clash with developers (and users) over the closed platform of iPhone 1.0. So interesting…

That was Doc Searls. Wasn’t it amazingly accurate?
