Who the heck are all these people who are not at work at 3 PM pm on a Thursday? New York just has so many people rammed into such a small area that all things are crowded all the time. Like last night, when I was driving in from LaGuardia at midnight and the Long Island Expressway was slowed to a crawl, as was 14th Street. Midnight. On a weeknight.
