VSocial presented at Social Media Club Phoenix tonight. Such a cool site.  Didn’t know they were financed by my friend Howard Lindzon.

Great to know that. I’m happy to help if I can. I was very impressed by the presentation last night. And I really know how crowded the space is, because I currently use Kyte, Facebook, Google, YouTube and Seesmic for different reasons.

I’m so happy to finally make it to an AZIPA social media event. Last night vSocial sales and marketing manager Marcia Canady talked about the idea of using video and social networking to build traffic and revenue. She explained the vSocial white label product, which just might be a good fit for those of our 2400+ suburban and community newspapers that haven’t implemented their video and social products.

There was a comment in the meeting that newspapers are dead, and nothing could be further from the truth. Our papers, much more than the major metros are still the voice of their community and growing robust online local marketplace products. Newspapers are more than just a print product.

I was there to hear more about the social media space, which I’ve been studying – as have our papers – for quite some time. There are many robust social media newspaper-affiliated sites, such as The Bakersfield Californian’s Bakotopia and NorthwestVoice.com and NeighborsGo by the Dallas Morning News. Fran Wills, at DMN now, helped create Your Hub, a social media site that is the property of Denver Newspaper Agency’s Denver Post and Rocky Mountain News and is now licensed to more than 20 papers. I could go on for quite some time….

Our newspapers are alive and kicking, evolving from more than their print core into multimedia news and community organizations with social, interactive, engaged and sought-after products.

I thank Marcia and vSocial for a very informative evening.

Sharon Hill, sales & marketing manager, Suburban Newspapers of America
