War in the DNA

by francine Hardaway on March 5, 2008

If you click through to this small Flash representation of history in the Middle East, you will easily understand why we are at war there, and why the Israel/Palestine situation is so hard to resolve and involves so many other countries of the world.

Who was it who said that those who don’t study history are condemned to repeat it?

Hi Francine,
With all due respect, I think you were had. The Shockwave video you posted is deliberate propaganda. The actual purpose of it is in the last frame. It is to equate the establishment of the State of Israel to past empires. The clear, and clearly intentional, implication is that the Israelis are just another bunch of outside invaders like the Assyrians or the Mongols. The historical fact is that the Jews came first as dirt farmers and then as refugees, not conquerors. The would-be conquerors were the Arabs who tried unsuccessfully to drive them out of their farms and villages into the sea. That the whole purpose of the piece is anti-Israel propaganda can be seen at the very end when it claims, “Israel Expands Under Armistice”. The implication is that that happened and is to be equated to the conquests of the Ottoman or Roman empires. It can be seen where the sympathies, and even perhaps the identities, of the creators of this piece of propaganda are from their reference to the Arab Empire as “The Caliphate”. That would be the standard Muslim interpretation that the Caliphate was religious and special, even holy, contrary to the Western non-Muslim understanding that it was just another empire.

Slick graphics do not make it not cheesy dishonest propaganda. I think it sullies your blog.
