Google Demonstrates Vaporware?

It’s all over TechMeme that Google debuted an Android phone at Mobile World Congress.. But the software is just a prototype. And of course, it is not even prototyped on an iPhone as far as I know. I suppose eventually it will be a competitor for the iPhone.

Unfortunately I’m not personally in Barcelona.

I for one would love to see an iPhone with some of the functionality I know Google’s engineers can bring to a project. They’ve been glomming on to all the great talent, and I just know the iPhone could be even better partnered with Google. I can tell from how quickly and how well Google has optimized its maps, calendar, mail, and reader for the iPhone. If you run Google Mobile Apps on the iPhone now, you can do almost anything with them. If it weren’t for the limits of the data download through AT&T’s lousy EDGE network and the lack of video capture on the iPhone, I’d be giving up carrying my laptop.

But I know I am dreaming. Nothing ever converges precisely the way I need it to.

It seems like they are marketing a concept without clearly explaining what it is, let alone why I should want it.
