The Phi Phi Islands are where they filmed the movie “The Beach.” was filmed. They are beautiful, about 45 minutes by boat off the coast of Phuket Island, and favorites of divers. There are only a few resorts right on the beach, and few merchants. But what WAS on the islands was totally wiped out by the tsunami. We had lunch at the PhiPhi Cabana Resort, which appeared to have been half demolished, and was only partially being rebuilt. It had opened in 2002, and it was destroyed a mere two years later.
