Facebook for Adults

by francine Hardaway on May 25, 2007

I’ve been playing with my Facebook page, today, adding things that are part of the new platform, like Twitter and uScoop, which tells everyone what social networks I’m on. I’ve also added Obama, which is also a Facebook app.

I did this because I think Obama is the first candidate to the table on Facebook, and I want to see what it does for him, and any other candidate who uses it, in the 2008 election. I can’t believe that we’re not at some kind of tipping point, in which social media will turn out large groups of younger voters who will evict not only Bush, but also the Democrats who somehow end up without the courage to be a real alternative to Bush, from the Oval office. If social media can’t make the young voters turn out, our democracy is a lost cause.

Just last night I added Ron Paul for president. http://www.facebook.com/person.php?id=2330333861&ref=mf I really like the idea of being able to support a candidate from a page with 5,000 other people. I would love to see a presidential poll on facebook.

I agree. At the last Social Media Club meeting in Arizona, we discussed MySpace’s plan to give every candidate a page and do something like that. But I think Facebook has the voters, and because so many Facebook people were or are college students, the poll would carry more weight.
