I've had to work damned hard for every job I've ever had, not that I wasn't happy to put forth the effort. It made me feel like I had "earned" the job instead of having it just given to me. I don't think I'm an outlier in this regard, but maybe I just need to widen my circle of acquaintences to know more people who have been given jobs. Could that be it?
