This is a Game Changer for Obama and Us
Filed under: Current Affairs | Tags: | November 15th, 2008
I am watching the first weekly "radio" address by President-elect Obama. And lo, it is on YouTube. No more guessing what the President thinks, what he is going to do, and how he feels.
This is a game-changer, whether anyone realizes it or not. It's an on-demand way to know what the President is thinking and doing without having to "tune in" to the weekly address (I have never known where or when it was before today, when its existence was tweeted to me as I opened my eyes this morning).
Obama is asking for and committing to an economic stimulus plan, and also asking us to recognize that to get ourselves out of this recession we will have to create jobs in green energy and national infrastructure. He's asking for a new spirit of sacrifice. Finally. We get to DO something as a nation.
I didn't hear anything about tax increases. I have heard a lot about community, about caring for each other. It was quite inspiring, but then I am the choir: a yoga teacher, an Obama supporter, a person who has always believed we rise and fall together, not separately.
